Mixed-media - Assemblage - Collage
It was an amazing opening reception of Down the Rabbit Hole: Perspectives in Art Exploration by Mindy Griffith and Barbara Simpson-Lara.
After 4 months of working non-stop on this project, neglecting everything and everyone else in order to complete all 11 pieces for this show, it came together.
I created 11 mixed-media collage works using elements from multiple photographs I’d taken while on an outing to the abandoned Griffith Park Zoo in October of 2022.
Barb and I along with our fabulous model and muse, Jessica, ventured out just to play around for the day, with our cameras in hand, but no real plan. One thing led to another, and the idea of this show was born.
We worked independently of each other - using our own photographs, we created new and interesting works for this exhibit. As a result, two different styles and perspectives emerged to showcase the creativity of two artists, while using the same subject matter.
I am beyond honored and grateful for every single person who was able to attend the opening reception of Down the Rabbit Hole.
Thank you to The Riverside Community Arts Association Gallery for the opportunity to showcase this new style I've added to my repertoire.
Thank you to Barb for spurring this whole thing on, and going down the rabbit hole of art exploration with me.
Thank you to all of my friends and family. To my sister, I thank you for being my biggest fan, cheering me on and supporting all my creative ventures.
We had an amazing turnout and the opening was a tremendous success. It was one of the best nights of my life. Gratitude abounds!
I want to extend an invite to those who were unable to make the opening.
This fabulous show runs to April 29th. Stop in anytime, Wed - Sat from 11 to 3pm. Or even better, shoot me a message, send me a text or give me a call to meet up at the gallery. I'd be thrilled to give you a tour and then let's grab a bite, a drink and catch up.
Most of all, thank you to my husband, Bill. You are my everything, my center, and the only reason to keep on doing what I do. You encourage me to be myself and allow me to follow my creative dreams. You keep me grounded and make me laugh. I love you always, forever and a day.
Much love to all.
